Zanzibar is East African Archipelago formed by Small Island such as unguja and pemba and surrounding islets in Indian ocean Lying 22 miles (35km) off the coast of East Africa. In 1964 Zanzibar together with Pemba Island and some other smaller island joined with Tanganyika on the mainland to form the United Republic Tanzania.

Zanzibar is a semi-self-governing part of Tanzania. Zanzibar is located in the Zanzibar Archipelago in the Indian Ocean, 25– 50 kilometres (16– 31 mi) off the coast of East Africa. It’s comprised of numerous little islands and two large ones: Unguja (the primary island, referred to casually as Zanzibar) and Pemba. The capital is Zanzibar City, located on the island of Unguja. A section of Zanzibar City is Stone Town, a World Heritage Site. Portuguese intrusion and control of the Swahili Coast in the late sixteenth century marked the end of the wealth for the local Swahili people and the beginnings of European influence and control.
