KILIMANJARO HEALTH CHECK
Daily Health Checks: Identify Acute Mountain Sickness
All of our guides have extensive knowledge of how to recognize altitude sickness in climbers & how to manage its complications. On the ascent, they will keep a close eye on you and communicate with you to ensure everything is well. Our guides will perform health inspections twice daily, in the morning and evening.
Pulse Oximeter:-
A pulse oximeter and heart rate measure the amount of oxygen in your blood. A climber’s fingertip is where the oximeter is put. Two light beams from the oximeter are directed into your finger’s capillaries and tiny blood arteries. The sensor displays the blood’s oxygen content.
The proportion of the maximum amount of oxygen your blood can transport is measured as your blood’s oxygen saturation. 95–100% is the average blood oxygen level at sea level.

The oxygen saturations drop with altitude. These numbers often increase when oxygen saturations are measured after a night of rest since proper acclimatization raises oxygen saturations in general.
Oxygen saturation levels are often in the 80s on Kilimanjaro. There are no specific saturation levels at which a customer can be said to be either entirely safe or at risk. On the other hand, we closely monitor that climber if oxygen saturation falls below 80%.
Lake Louise Scoring System:-
To assess the severity of your altitude sickness symptoms and whether you have any, our guides will also administer the Lake Louise Scoring System. The LLSS is a collection of inquiries used to evaluate adult AMS symptoms.
You must communicate with your guide in general and these questions in an open, engaged, and honest manner. Try not to pretend to be unwell if you don’t feel well. Do not pretend to feel fine while hiding your symptoms. The guide can only serve you well if you provide accurate information.
There’s always a chance you’ll have to abandon your ascent. The guide will advise you to descend in these circumstances. It is an order, not a recommendation or appeal. The decision of the focus is final. Do not attempt to persuade him to continue your ascent with words, threats, or money. The climber’s guide wants you to succeed, but he won’t put his own health in danger. The guide’s judgment should prevail over respect.
