OVERVIEW

This tented lodge provides a superb base from which to explore Tarangire National Park. The accommodation is spacious and guests enjoy a great range of activities.

Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge is owned and run by Nasikia Camps. Something of a step up from the other camps in the Nasikia portfolio, it offers very spacious tents including two family units. Accommodation is usually booked on a full-board basis, and the lodge is open all year round.

ACCESS & LOCATION

The lodge is accessed via 45 minutes’ road transfer from Kuro Airstrip, or 2 hours 30 minutes’ drive from Arusha. It’s situated in the central region of Tarangire National Park, surrounded by acacia and baobab trees.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES:

Guest accommodation consists of 12 tented suites, including two double units for families. All are spaced well apart along the plains and raised about a metre off the ground, so they feel both private and secure. Steps lead up onto a private deck, where you’ll find a love seat and a side table – this is a great spot for relaxing and enjoying your views! Entering a standard tent, which measures 20 metres long by 8 metres wide, you’ll find a double bed, twin beds, or triple beds set up on polished wooden floors – the tent is sufficiently spacious to accommodate three travellers very easily. Other furnishings include bedside tables and lighting, a writing desk and chair, comfy seating, elegant lighting, and some wonderful wildlife artwork. There’s a telephone too, as well as a phonebook and a password for in-room Wi-Fi. The en-suite washroom contains a flush toilet, twin washbasins, separate shower with hot/cold running water, and additional storage space.

The two family units are each made up of two tents – one for parents and one for children. A wooden platform connects the two verandas, and there are wooden rails around the edge to prevent the kids from falling. There are rails on every standard tent’s veranda too, and sliding double doors with mosquito netting provide a safe and stylish entrance/exit. Access for disabled travellers is available on request.

The communal spaces at Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge are equally well appointed. Overall, they’re luxurious without feeling pretentious. Joined to the guest tents via a pathway that’s lit by lanterns at night, they occupy classic timber-and-thatch structures. The lounge features comfortable seating around coffee tables, and it’s adjacent to the lodge’s bar, which stocks a good range of alcoholic and soft drinks. In the dining area, there’s a big table where everyone eats together, sharing stories of their safari day. Guests socialise around the fire-pit too, which is the perfect place for sundowners. Anyone in need of a little pampering can pop to the on-site spa for a variety of relaxing and revitalising treatments, while the gift shop is fantastic for some souvenir shopping. Finally, the swimming pool is situated on its own deck and flanked by inviting sunloungers. The pool deck is a popular venue for al fresco dining, whether you’re in need of a quick snack or a three-course supper.
