Owned and operated by Sanctuary, Swala Camp is highly recommended for travellers seeking a deluxe base from which to explore Tarangire. The property is sister camp to YZ favourite Kusini, and it has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor! Accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, all drinks except premium brands, transfers between Kuro Airstrip and camp, two daily shared game viewing activities, Wi-Fi, and a laundry service. Children aged 15 years and younger are required to share with their parents, incurring a reduced rate – please contact us for details.

The camp is accessed via 45 minutes’ road transfer from Kuro Airstrip. The flight time from Arusha to Kuro is 25 minutes, and from Serengeti South Airstrip it’s 1 hour 30 minutes. Swala has a peaceful location within the south-west of Tarangire, amidst immense acacias and baobabs.

Guest accommodation consists of 12 canvas pavilions, all to one side of the communal building. Each stands on a wooden deck, and a few steps lead up onto the veranda. Here you’ll find a couple of campaign chairs and a table, as well as some comfy seating – it’s a great spot for relaxing and watching wildlife such as elephants and antelopes wander by! Inside every pavilion, there’s a double bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, LED lights overhead, a couple of end-of-bed stools, a writing desk and chair, two armchairs, and an umbrella stand. Additional amenities include mosquito nets, fans, an electronic safe, yoga mats, and a hairdryer. A tall partition behind the bed or beds separates the bedroom area from the washroom. The latter space contains a flush toilet, twin washbasins in a stand with mirror over, and an indoor shower that extends out to a very spacious outdoor shower! There’s also a storage unit for clothes and other belongings, and a selection of complimentary toiletries. Each pavilion is sufficiently large to sleep a maximum of three adults, or two adults and one child.

Swala Camp’s communal lounge and dining areas are arranged within a classic timber, stone, and thatch lodge that blends seamlessly with the surrounding bushscape. Raised on stilts, the lodge boasts spectacular views over Tarangire! The lounge features stylish sofas and chairs around coffee tables, a selection of reading material, and a gorgeous cascading chandelier. In the dining area, chic separate tables are flanked by smart upright chairs. Both the lounge and dining area flow out onto a deck, where you can relax and tuck in to delicious food and drink while marvelling at the scenery. Dining highlights include full English and continental breakfasts, homemade pizza for lunch, and lavish three-course dinners. A short distance from the lodge, there’s a fire-pit that’s perfect for pre-dinner drinks while sharing safari stories with your fellow guests.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
