Faru Faru, meaning ‘Rhino Rhino’, looks out over a watering hole onto Grumeti River. This is a fantastic location, where game is often viewable from camp.

Singita’s Faru Faru Lodge is just under a two-hour flight from Arusha. Occasionally guests drive into camp, but, due to the prices charged to stay here, most clients are on flying safaris, flying in from neighbouring Ngorongoro (60 minutes) and Lake Manyara (90 minutes).

With only eight rooms, Faru Faru is a small, high-end lodge where service and hospitality are of the highest order. Privately owned by a wealthy American businessman, the Singita Reserve is the most luxurious reserve in Tanzania. We would go so far as to say that this camp is one of the finest products in Africa. It comes as no surprise that staying here is far from cheap. However, we are willing to put our neck on the line and argue that the value you get while staying in this reserve is some of the best you will find anywhere. No expense is spared here in the quest to deliver the perfect safari experience.

We do not often praise the food and hospitality of expensive lodges – high quality should come as standard. However, Faru Faru, and the entire Singita Reserve for that matter, deserves its own special mention. Paying some of the highest prices in the country rewards you with a service level that will compete with anywhere in Africa – this is unquestionably the highest standard of hospitality and service in the country. It is also worth mentioning that, due to the range of activities on offer, and the sheer quality of accommodation, Faru Faru is a very good destination to travel to outside the peak migration months. If visiting this camp outside its peak migration months, we often combine it with a more migration-focused camp.

This private reserve offers night safari as well as walking and village trips – activities that are not permitted within the Serengeti park boundary. Aim for May to late July, when the Great Migration herds pass through. However, fairly good resident game and exceptional standards of hospitality make this camp a great option throughout the year. To really experience the Serengeti at its best, we would suggest combining Faru Faru with a more migration-focused camp out of the Great Migration months.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
